HELEN KIRKUM PROJECT

PROJECT BRIEF.
VISUAL EXCERPTS.
This mixed-media animation was created as a promotional piece for sustainable footwear designer Helen Kirkum, whose practice centers on deconstructing and reconstructing shoes using recycled and second-hand materials. Responding to this process, I developed a moving image outcome using a combination of primary-sourced imagery and illustration, creating hand-drawn interpretations of selected shoes from her collection. The animation functions as a visual slideshow, introduced by a short opening sequence featuring the Helen Kirkum name and logo, and focuses on materiality, form, and movement.
This project strengthened my ability to translate a brand’s ethos into a cohesive visual narrative while working across illustration and motion. It allowed me to explore sustainable fashion through moving image, refine my mixed-media approach, and develop skills in visual storytelling for brand-led promotional content, supporting my progression toward more concept-driven and client-facing design work.
